I’m excited to see this coming out at last! Physcomitrium pygmaeum is a Funariaceae species that has been often misunderstood, and only rarely collected. Although its description goes back to 1871, it has often been considered a mere synonym of P. pyriforme, with very few specimens deposited in herbaria and a missing type. In this study, the Funariaceae research group teamed up with Genevieve Tocci and David Toren to update the status of this moss, designate a lectotype, confirm a locality for the first time in almost a century and circumscribe the taxon using morphology and DNA barcoding.
