I was delighted to participate in the XXVIII Bryological Meeting, held in Silleda (Pontevedra, Galicia) from September 24th to 27th. Organized by Manuel Pimentel and Elvira Sahuquillo from the University of A Coruña, this annual event brought together bryologists from across Spain and beyond to explore the rich diversity of bryophytes in the Comarca del Deza.
Despite the rainy weather, the meeting was a great success, with visits to the Sierra de Candán, the Ulla-Deza river system, and the coastal habitats of Illa de Cortegada. These field excursions allowed attendees to observe a wide range of bryophyte-rich habitats, including hyper-humid river valleys, Atlantic oak forests, laurel woods, coastal cliffs, dune systems, and peat bogs.
The event fostered lively scientific exchange and strengthened our understanding of bryophyte diversity in these unique ecosystems. It was an inspiring gathering, reinforcing the importance of field-based research and collaboration in bryology.
